Overview of Title VI American Indian/Alaska Native Education

The Coquille School District is committed to developing curriculum and training teachers, along with Title VI staff, to deliver academic and cultural education tailored to Native American students. The district collaborates closely with the Coquille Indian Tribe to honor and incorporate their rich cultural heritage. Notably, Coquille is located within the original lands of the Coquille Indian Tribe, a connection that deeply informs and enriches the program’s mission.

Purpose

The Title VI American Indian/Alaska Native Education program aims to:

  • Address the unique educational and culturally related academic needs of Native American students to ensure they meet the same challenging state standards as all students.
  • Foster connections among families, culture, community, and education.
  • Enhance cultural awareness and self-esteem among students.
  • Extend program services to all qualified Native American students.
  • Support Native American students in successfully completing high school and pursuing higher education.
